Alberta’s craft brewing business is going strong these days. More breweries are opening all the time and some are expanding into food service in their tasting rooms. In some places, the selection revolves around nuts and pretzels but in others — such as The Dandy Brewing Company — there’s a full-blown restaurant, albeit focused around the beer.
Dandy, at 2003 11th St. S.E. (403-769-9399), took over a former motorcycle shop in Ramsay and has converted it into a brewery with a 50-seat restaurant/tasting room. It’s a simple space with concrete floors, three large garage doors that open to the elements and an open kitchen in one corner. Tables dot the floor, ready to be drawn together for groups or set apart for couples. Work from local artists covers the walls and a long line of 20 taps lines one wall. Dandy has an ambience that’s suitable for dropping into after a hard day’s work whether you wear overalls or a suit.
